Sisters of the Storm

When she went to the Sisters of the Storm, they told her they could not teach her. They said she could never enter the Sisterhood because she had not been born a woman. But she had power and desire greater than they knew.
So when the storm began to brew over the initiation grounds, she saw her chance. The rain pounded against her and wind blew her for side to side. Lightning flashes blinded her while thunder set her ears ringing. Still she pressed onward.

At the initiation circle, she stood her unflinching in the pounding rain, lightning striking around her, thunder shaking her bones. The woman called out to the storm, “Here I am!” with both arms raised to the sky. The storm stared into her heart and found her worthy. She felt the earth reach up through her to the storm. And the storm reached back.

Lisa’s Story: Zombie Apocalypse – Chapter One

Prologue

I began to make plans. There was a convenience store a few blocks away that would be a good first stop. Beyond that there was a superstore that had to be overflowing with supplies. But first I had to deal with a problem closer to home.

It had been more than a week, almost two weeks, I had lost track of the days, since my roommate had left to find her father. When I moved into the apartment, my roommate and I had split the cabinet and refrigerator space. Since the power went out, I had eaten all of my perishable food but hadn’t touched hers. Out of obligation to the roommate code I had respected her food rights, even as I piled her mattress against a window. I had believed she would be coming back after finding her father but now I doubted that I would ever hear from her again. I wished I had eaten her food. It was starting to smell.

Lisa’s Story: Zombie Apocalypse – Prologue

Thursday

I scratched my legal name off the new schedule and wrote in Lisa. The scheduling system was supposed to be able to handle “nicknames” but after an hour my manager had given up figuring out how it worked. It wasn’t that big of deal. All my co-workers knew my legal name but were good about not using it.

A co-worker and I fangirled about the new Marvel movie during our breaks. I trained a new employee on the register. She caught on fast and after an hour I barely had to help her. Got one person to sign up for the store’s credit card. Restocked the ladies feature racks. Clocked out on time.

On the bus ride home, I saw a Facebook post about a man attacking people at a hospital. The local newspaper’s website didn’t have a story about it yet.

Serial Story – Dragon’s Hoard

Disabled, retired, and/or older adventurers are brought together for a special job.  The first few stories are character pieces to intro characters before they are brought together for the main story.

Immortality Trinkets

The man, who had come to kill me, forced me at dagger point into my treasure room. He glanced about at the chests of gold coins, the small silver statues with gems for eyes, jewelry of all kinds displayed in glass cases. A sealed vase with some glowing, swirling light within caught his eye.

“Is this it?” he demanded, picking it up and holding the vase over his head, “Is this your secret?” The vase hurtled toward the ground, smashing with a flash of light leaving behind a smoke cloud. I said nothing. He glowered at me and looked around the room.

Is Jupiter Still There?

The black void of interspace opened back unto the comforting star field of Sol system. The home of all humans; now disputed territory in a war between two alien factions.

“Is Jupiter still there?” May asked, impatient to know the status of our objective. We had abandoned the outer planets to the alien forces that sought to use them for resources. Earth had become a tightly defended planet with defenses re-engineered from ships captured from both sides. They had sent a few scouts and a small attack force, after that but then nothing. Maybe we were too a small a fish to go after as an enemy or ally.

Names and Work Schedules

So, a couple of years ago when I came out and transitioned at my job, my manager told me that the scheduling system could use a preferred name instead of my legal name.  This was good news because everyday the manager prints out a line-up sheet listing everyone working that day, where they’re working and when their breaks/lunches are.  Basically with out that feature of the system I would have to see my legal name every day that I worked as would everyone else who worked with me.  I was was overjoyed at this news and then my manager couldn’t get it to work.

So, he said the managers would just have to scratch out my legal name and write in Gillian when I worked.  That happened for about two weeks and then it fell to the wayside.  It wasn’t that big of a deal.  None of my co-workers called me by it and they switched pronouns pretty fast so it seemed like a non-issue.  Sometimes they would scratch off my legal name and write in Gillian and it felt nice like they cared, not enough to do it every day but still.

The obvious fix for this is to get my name legally changed but for several reasons I just haven’t done it.

Today I go into work, look at the line-up and it has Gillian printed on it.  I just stared at it for like a minute.  At first I thought I was misreading it but I looked at it again and it still read Gillian. I checked the new weekly schedule and it has Gillian on there too.  When I clock out it says Gillian as well.  Clocking in or out was a bit of a daily anxiety because your name stays on the screen for a few seconds so if someone was right behind me they could see my legal name before.

I honestly don’t know who or how or why the system is working now.  I’m not going to pretend it was done just for me.  There are a few other people, none trans, who go by names other than their legal names so this benefits them too.  I’m just really happy that it is finally working the way it’s supposed to.
